Keur Mame Diarra Orphanage For the orphan — Touba, Senegal

Our project

The Orphanage Keur Mame Diarra

Darou Khadim, km 8 on the road to Bélel, north of Touba.

Construction is underway

The Cité is no longer just a plan on paper: it is taking shape at Darou Khadim, at kilometre 8 of the road to Bélel. The residential blocks have been built and are now home to the children.

The medical and social centre is under construction: 35 per cent of the work has been completed. This is currently the most urgent project, and funding is still required to complete it.

The full programme

Once completed, the Cité will bring together on a single site:

  • Nurseries and kindergartens
  • A health centre
  • Separate accommodation for boys and girls
  • A mosque
  • Administrative offices
  • A Koranic school and a Franco-Arabic school
  • A vocational training centre

The aim of the latter is clear: to equip beneficiaries with the means to become self-reliant in the future and to contribute to their society.

Where we are now

The project is being built in stages, as funding becomes available.

Medical and social centre

Under construction. 35 per cent of the work has been completed; completion depends on the donations received.

Chicken coop — operational

Built thanks to a donation from the Senegalese government. The first sales of broiler chickens have got off to a successful start.

Bakery

Under consideration. Like the poultry house, it is intended to ensure the orphanage’s financial self-sufficiency rather than reliance on donations.

Equipment

Bringing the laundry facilities up to standard and purchasing transport vehicles for the premises already in use.
